Summer Season Fruits and their Benefits on our Health

Pakistan being a tropical country faces a difficult summer season. In some area it’s not only hot but humid too. Blazing heat, sweaty bodies and dehydration all indicate the arrival of summer. With the temperature rising every passing day, it is essential to pay heed to our health or else one can suffer serious consequences.

Adjusting our diets  and adding fresh fruits and vegetables according to the weather will help keep one fresh and nourished during this testing season, preventing dehydration, skin sensitivities, nutrients deficiencies , etc. However fruits are taken as secondary meal or occasionally without considering their nutritional value for a healthy being.

For instance, summer season fruits contain essential vitamins, minerals and antioxidants that can help you bear the harsh weather conditions.

1. MANGO

This versatile tropical delicacy, sometimes known as the “king of fruit,” is one of the most popular fruits in the world. So succulent, flavourful and pretty to look at that we forget that they are also healthy. Healthy dose of vitamins, minerals and enzymes that are beneficial for our health. And that’s not it, the mighty mango is a great high-fibre and high-antioxidant food too.

mangoes are high in the antioxidants beta-carotene and vitamin C, and are good for boosting the immune system, protecting eyesight, reducing cholesterol and also help in keeping indigestion at bay.

2. WATER MELON

With its bold red color and juicy taste, watermelon is a quintessential summer fruit. It is the brand ambassador of summer and most demanded fruits of the season.  92% of a watermelon is water and hence, they are extremely hydrating.

They aren’t far behind in the nutrition either, with each bite containing Vitamins A, B6, C, amino acids, dietry fibers, calcium, iron, carotenoid.  A couple of slices a day can help prevent heart attacks and diseases, different types of cancer, digestive problems, poor eye sight and hair loss.

3. PAPAYA

Papayas with not only the luscious taste and sunlit color of the tropics can be used ripe, unripe or dried. Papayas are rich sources of antioxidant nutrients such as carotenes, vitamin C and flavonoids; the B vitamins, folate and pantothenic acid; and the minerals, potassium, copper, and magnesium; and fiber. Together, these nutrients promote the health of the cardiovascular system and also provide protection against colon cancer. The sweetening taste of papaya is the perfect treatment for diabetes, bloating etc.

4. PLUMS

Plums are considered as small power units of nutrients. Also they are good way to satisfy your hunger and your sweet tooth.

They contain dietary fibres which are great relievers of constipation and digestive problem. It reduces risk of heart stroke and high blood pressure. Consuming plums reduce risk of Diabetes Type-2 and Brest Cancer.

Each plum contains 30 calories so it is beneficial in dieting.

5. LITCHI

The litchi is a glorious fruit and loved for its sweet juicy taste. It comes bundled with nutrients. It is rich source of potassium, phenols and vitamins. It helps maintain blood pressure and sodium level in blood.

Rich in anti-oxidants, they help in boosting immunity, prevent cancers and reduce inflammation.

6. PINEAPPLE

Do you know this fun-fact that pineapple is not actually a fruit? A pineapple is a mass of berries that are fused to a central stalk. It comes with many health benefits including boosting metabolism and reduces inflammation.

It is effectively used in hypertension and also helps burn calories.
