Epilepsy is neurological disorder that affects brain activity which results in seizures or unpredictable behavior. Seizures symptoms can affect brain differently. Few people with epilepsy tend to repeatedly twitch their arms or legs.

Epilepsy could be developed to everyone. If you experience a single fit it doesn’t mean you have developed epilepsy.

TYPES OF EPILEPSY:

  • GRAND MAL SEIZURE

In this specific type of epilepsy, patient falls to the floor and patient body becomes stiff and then start shaking.

  • PARTIAL SEIZURE

This type of epilepsy occur due to abnormal current in few portion of brain. The symptom may show up as per the location of the brain.

  • SIMPLE PARTIAL SEIZURE

In this type of seizure the patient is fully conscious and may experience uncertain sensation or jerking in limbs.

  • COMPLEX PARTIAL SEIZURE

In this type of seizure the patient is not fully conscious and may experience an irrelevant behavior.

SYMPTOMS

  • Temporary Confusion
  • Gazing
  • Unusual jerks
  • Loss of consciousness
  • Psychic symptoms such as anxiety, stress

CAUSES

  • Tumor
  • Brain stroke
  • Accidental head injury
  • Undeveloped brain at time of birth
  • Neurological abnormalities

Epilepsy can be diagnosed through:

  • EEG ( Electroencephalogram)
  • 3 Tesla MRI
  • Functional MRI
  • SPECT & PET-CT
  • Neuronavigation system
  • Intraoperative MRI

TREATMENT

Epilepsy can be treated through:

  • Anti epileptic Drugs
  • Vagus nerve stimulator
  • Ketogenic Diet
  • Brain Surgery
