World Osteoporosis Day | Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment

October 20th marks for World Osteoporosis Day. This campaign is dedicated to raising global awareness of the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of osteoporosis. It aims to make osteoporosis and fracture prevention a global health priority by reaching out to health-care professionals, the media, policy makers, patients, and the public at large.

KEY MESSAGES FOR PREVENTION ON WORLD OSTEOPOROSIS DAY 2020

  • Make exercise your lifestyle. For strengthening of bones Weight bearing, Muscle strengthening and balancing exercises are best.
  • Keep the diet rich in bone-strengthening nutrients. Including Calcium, Vitamin-D and some Proteins.
  • Avoid sedentary lifestyle to prevent risk of Osteoporosis. Also avoid negative habits including smoking and alcohol consumption.
  • Spend 15 minutes at least under safe exposure of sun in order to gain Vitamin-D
  • Identify and mark your signs of osteoporosis. Never avoid any pain or stress on bones and joints.
  • Ask yourself for any previous risk factors like previous fractures or any specific medication or disease condition and discuss them with doctor for proper care.
  • Get your bones scanned and tested annually or biannually (if you are facing risk factors). Start medication if you are at high risk to ensure optimal protection against fractures.
